Welcome
to STAYING CONNECTED! - a community project initiated by the
Rotary
Club of Bukit Timah and adopted by the Foundation
of Rotary Clubs, Singapore.
Many of us have visited Old Folks' homes as part of a school
group or community project, particularly during the festive
periods. Whilst these visits will bring cheers and happiness
to our elderly citizens in the homes, how many of us have actually
thought about these elderly as individuals - each with his or
her own wishes, concerns and hopes?
In STAYING CONNECTED, we aim to do just that - treat each of
these senior citizens as individual! You, the volunteer, can
decide who and how you would like to help. Unlike group-based
social service programmes, we allow our volunteers to provide
more personal, one-to-one service to the elderly and hopefully,
form a bridge for a more meaningful relationship between the
elderly and the volunteer.
We live in a country with one of the fastest ageing populations
in the world. Older people are not only the pillar of our heritage,
they are also the bridge to our past and a mirror to our future.
With their journey in life approaching to an endnote, we have
every reason and urgency to show our appreciation and love for
them!
Our objectives are simple:
1. Bring warmth and friendship into the lives of the elderly
individual.
2. Encourage the spirit of free and willing public contribution
according to one's means and resources.
3. Build up a sustainable interest in the spirit of community
service when volunteers gain personal satisfaction through granting
the wishes of the elderly.
View the wishes and needs of our elderly and decide how you
can help them. You can start of with a wish that you can easily
help fulfill. You can even select a location that is convenient
to you.
Sign up now and show that you care! The respective care-giver
or home will contact you once you have registered as a volunteer
and pick the wish you would like to fulfill.
